Virtual Private Servers

Virtual Private Servers occupy a middle ground between a dedicated server and regular shared hosting. You get the features of dedicated hosting in a shared environment.

Your virtual server runs on one of our servers. The server runs a number of virtual servers. Each virtual server shares the host server's memory, CPU, Internet connection and other resources. No one VPS can monopolize resources. Each VPS gets a guaranteed share of the server CPU, disk IO and network.

Once the VPS starts up, there is very little functional difference between it and a full dedicated server. The boot process is the same. Services can be installed and configured as they normally are on a Linux server.

Virtual Servers can be more reliable than a traditional dedicated server. In the event of a hardware failure, we can migrate your virtual server to another physical machine—often while it is still running. This considerably reduces the impact of what might normally be a catastrophic failure without requiring you to have a redundant/standby server.

Virtual Servers are priced according to the amount of required storage and memory allocated. Virtual Private Servers include a single processor, one (1) IP address, 100 GB transfer ($1/GB over). We can accommodate scenarios outside of these parameters—please inquire if you have special needs or check the order page for more options.

We feature and run Gentoo Linux on our VPSs and have a well tested pre-built image ready to deploy. Gentoo is one of the most flexible Linux operating systems available and offers a very flexible platform to run in a virtualized environment. We also have images for other popular linux distributions such as: CentOS, Debian, Fedora, Slackware, and Ubuntu—or you can roll your own. It is also possible to run Windows, should your needs dictate. Please inquire if you would like to consider this.
